It isn't. We just put it in a money mutual marked fund, then we will reinvest the earnings in a foreign currency account, and... Fuck it's gone. What happened???
Stan's grandfather story about his dog made me tear up. Such a genuine moment and great delivery on the part of the voice actor. I had to pause the video to get my shit back together.
Agreed, it was such a nice, unusually wholesome moment for Stan and his gramps!! That is, up until the mild dementia kicked in and his next words to Stan were, “BTW, that bolo tie you’re wearing? It looks f***ing g*y as hell!! You should stop wearing it!!” 😂😂😂. THE SAME bolo tie that he himself bought as a gift for Stan, which was the only reason he was wearing it to visit him in the first place! That was hands down the main joke they were building up throughout the whole episode beginning with Cartman saying those exact words to Stan. Those are the best jokes they setup because when you finally get to the punchline, it all hits you off guard like a brick wall!!
Because the writers actually put some effort in their writing, unlike some other shows like family guy. The creators of the show want to show the world for what it truly is, rather than just picking one side and be biased (like family guy). Family guy is extremely biased towards the liberal point of view. They always present the conservatives as a bunch of bigoted intolerant retards and liberals as bunch of tolerant and rational individuals. On top of that it has some of the most lazy writing I have ever seen with jokes that aren't funny and many of the points they try to make are either terrible or biased. South Park on the other hand shows that liberals can be just as bigoted and intolerant as conservatives and manage to make really good and unbiased points while being really funny at the same time.
Dominic Bruce im certain he could talk about moral hazard from that one and how what we view as morally correct is relative and not based on whats best economically
I did not go to public school I want to special education school and honestly I am feeling quite optimistic! Don't know why I haven't killed my self yet! XD J.K
Sure, there are episodes that had serious tones, especially in the later seasons, but unlike Family Guy, South Park managed to remain a comedy while Family Guy ended up being a piece of shit that demands that it be taken seriously and tries to excuse the lazy writing as "it is just a comedy".
The episode where butters is raising money for camp and starts his own ride sharing business touches the most upon the subject matter of economics, Although the Margaritaville is an interesting look into business cycle theory.
Basically all business school students that aren't South Park fans are destined to flunk. Also turns out that people who are not susceptible to advertisement usually suck at marketing...
i got into a deep convo with my friend on how the xbox killer episode is about george bush and dick cheney and how they recklessly started the iraqi war
Nah man, liberals (as in left of center) are ok. You can talk to and debate with them (usually without fear of physical harm). It's authoritarian regressive leftists (or as they ironically call themselves "progressive") that should be ashamed.
I must say with solidarity thank you for explaining what was actually going on with the underpants gnomes and their "stage 3" organizational skills, I've attempted to personally draw a line between them and the townsfolk as South Park are masters at drawing lines between two seemingly completely unrelated subjects and ideas I knew there was something so thanks for the insight, grasshoppah 🤝

"Cash rules everything around us in this wisecrack edition..." That just gave me chills, made me laugh really hard, and hurt my soul all at the same time.
"freemium isn't free"! I would love your point of view on that episode, I found it to be a social and economical critique on addiction and its use on capital gain.
lol, far from it, they are simple libertarians. Notice how most lessons from South Park are, X and Y are both bad, let's compromise with something in the middle. South Park benefits the status quo by critiquing everything but not taking any stances.
lepetittofu They're just good at criticizing our American culture and making it funny. If u look at interviews or listen to the South Park commentary most of their influence just come from an idea they think is funny. Matt and Trey are basically trolls irl. Wisecrack just analyzes it from their own interpretation but not the author's interpretation. So in a way it's bs but it's good bs.
Renkinjutsushi South Park has taken multiple stands before. But keep regurgitating that tired myth that they think "every answer is in the middle", yawn.
They're far from stupid and know how to formulate their ideas. A surprising number of smart people are just really good writers who know their fair share.
lepetittofu they are the only creators to offend every religious, ethnic, gender, political, and misc demographic and make money doing it. That's pretty damn smart.
I am in the process of making a cartoon, and my metric of success has nothing to do with profit or industry awards. I will consider my cartoon a success if and only if Wisecrack deems it worthy of a "The Philosophy of" video.
Wisecrack is made out of idiotic marxist. Even this video was a failure. Seriously you should look into real economist, philosophers and historians instead of wisecrack.
At 14:43 there's an Easter egg relating to Futurama. The profiles name is John Bender. In the Futurama, the character Bender is played by John DiMaggio
The homeshopping network episode broke my heart, when his grandpa opens up about his dog and how Alzheimer is effecting him. Oof, just heart wrenching.
The Margaritaville episode was their best episode on the economy and should definitely have been included. I assume you've done a seperate video on that episode?
I feel like you used "value" instead of price interchangebaly. But in economics and finance, they are 2 different things. I don't think anyone thinks that value is created by supply and demand. Price is. Value for a buyer is then for example difference between his maximum bid and actual price. The fundamental analysis of stocks is based on this difference.
I'm with Stan, sure I have a Facebook account but I only use it a couple times a year at most. I might start using it more often though since the job I'm planning to get soon is freelance and I need connections.
Looking at the work that goes into production of a good is actually the deeper analysis of pricing rather than relying solely on supply and demand. If you don't look at the work side, you can't determine if work is undervalued, which is a major problem with the current economy that many economists don't account for.

I just noticed one small detail that may be incorrect in this video @3:07 where “the backfire effect” was briefly discussed but the term that would may have been more accurate is called the “confirmation bias effect”. I love the channel and look forward to seeing more great content
I watched the jewelry episode. I thought it was exaggerated. The same week I chose to once in years watch TV, roamed through channels and I couldn’t stop laughing when I found a 1:1 jewelry channel like in south park 🤣 Also it was the same with the prices, 20000€. Aand the new price is 1000€!! Get it now! I had no idea this is actually a thing 😂
every view has a philosophy behind it, so even if it wasn't supposed to be taken that way, it can be. It's basically what this channel does, read philosophy into shows that might now have anything to do about focusing on that at all. That said, I imagine its very similar to Rick and Morty.
Good thing you talked about this topic and mentioned you lived off of ads. That made me realize there wasn't any ad on the video, even though you were in my ad-blocker's white-list. Turns out, you guys use Google Syndication, which was white-listed by my privacy tracker, but not my script-blocker. That being fixed, you did the whole community a service. It's just a drop in the water, but hey, there you go.
Hey Wisecrack serious question; y'all ever do links for yalls author recommendations? I love who yall recommend; found some great reading thanks to yall
Hello, dear Wisecrack. I would LOVE to see either a philosophy of Cloud Atlas or Donnie Darko (if y'all've the time). The former is far deeper than most realize, especially the original novel.
They should teach a lesson on a controvesial issue and make the whole season breaking it down per episodes. Idk if this would be very entertaining for mass audiences, but i would love it
woah woah woah slow down wisecrack! Who said we are friends? We are acquaintances at best I mean I barely know you! I don't know your birthday or your favorite color you need to calm down just cause I like your videos and comment on them doesn't mean we are friends okay? cool just thought I should clear that up now before it went to far
I would just point to correct that supply and demand are not a theory of value, but of prices. Price and value are two different things. For example, the Monalisa has a price to be paid, but a inestimable historical and cultural value. I think you were thinking about the marginal theory of value, the other theory is the work value theory.
You guys should do a video on that few years old movie called John Doe: Vigilante. As the title says it's about a vigilante, the moral grey area, if and when the law should be crossed, etc. Like "The Philosophy of John Doe: Vigilante" would be quite a good watch.
Since I finished watching Black Mirror with a housemate of mine, I've been struggling to find something that can inspire the same kinds of conversations. I wonder if South Park could be what I've been looking for.
It's odd that you take the Relational/Subjective Value idea from Baudrillard when it's existed since at least the late-1800's in the work of Menger, Jevons, Hayek, Keynes, etc. For an economic analysis, this is a lot more sociological than economic.
MrGuvnah I mentioned Hayek and Keynes only cause they're more famous and still prior to Baudrillard. You can forgive a mainly philosophy channel for not knowing of Walras and Jevons, as they're barely even taught in Economics departments anymore
I've noticed that when Wisecrack cites a thinker from after 1910, it tends to be some Postmodern sociologists and other Frankfurt school derivatives: Henry Giroux, Herbert Marcuse and so on. Given how mainstream economics is the hybrid of Pigovianism, Keynesianism and Samuelson-style MIT optimization math-heavy programs, I'm not surprised that the guys at Wisecrack haven't picked up many of the nuances of Freshwater perspectives.
I know really. South Park clearly demonstrates free-market or libertarian leaning economic systems and arguments then any sort of post-modernist of Marxist economic theory. Subjective theory of value has been around for a long time and the post-modernist know how bad the labor theory of value is so they try to fix it with Baudrillard's argument. But it just naturally devolved into what capitalist and Austrians have been saying for years with the subjective theory of value. It's like their trying to make South Park themes into left-wing talking points when it is so clearly not.
Horny Dog, Hy dude, dnt get ur panties in a twist, I never said anything about which one is better, though I do like the concept of socialism personally, I think that it has its flaws much like I think capitalism has its flaws. Read what I wrote earlier clearly, don't rage.
Horny Dog , no such thing as a "free market", everything is controlled down to the penny. It's all about money & the upper class, we the working class don't factor in at all.
You missed an important one about finance Margaritaville....and it's gone!
Love that chapter
This is such a beautiful comment. lol
It isn't. We just put it in a money mutual marked fund, then we will reinvest the earnings in a foreign currency account, and... Fuck it's gone.
What happened???
It is a great example sad it wasn't included
Please get off this video, this video is for customers who have money only, please step aside.
Easily the most under appreciated part of any South Park episode is the fact that Stan’s subplot in “Margaritaville” explains the housing bubble.
What’s the housing bubble ?
@@crazypato3752 uhhhhhh
Stan's grandfather story about his dog made me tear up. Such a genuine moment and great delivery on the part of the voice actor. I had to pause the video to get my shit back together.

I was literally about to comment this same thing. It makes me cry almost every time I watch it.

The episode where Cartman inherits an amusement park from his grandma is basic economics 101
He inherited 1M bucks, bought the amusement park, then had to sell it back basically for free...
@@mikitz ironically he sell it back because the Park was an unintentional success . remember he wanted an amusement park for himself only.
@@tareklegrand7747 All this because it didn't occur to him that a park like that isn't exactly maintenance-free.

So many episodes, namely Margaritaville, touch on economics, finance, sales, marketing. Matt and Trey are brilliant.

“I can’t remember what she looked like Billy”

How can a show so funny also have so many levels?!
And consistently for so many years :)
Implying that depth and fun can't go together? :P
Because the writers actually put some effort in their writing, unlike some other shows like family guy. The creators of the show want to show the world for what it truly is, rather than just picking one side and be biased (like family guy). Hey, I think you missed one of their greatest episodes on the subject: Margaritaville (s13e3), released in March 2009.

Southpark, a mature cartoon that possibly teaches us more than public schools,

meh, some of South Park's episodes are almost unbearable and give you brain cancer
Imperial Gamer that's not hard. Public schools are garbage. Go private or don't bother going.
South Park is a legend when it comes to television!
Sure, there are episodes that had serious tones, especially in the later seasons, but unlike Family Guy, South Park managed to remain a comedy while Family Guy ended up being a piece of shit that demands that it be taken seriously and tries to excuse the lazy writing as "it is just a comedy".

I've noticed that when Wisecrack cites a thinker from after 1910, it tends to be some Postmodern sociologists and other Frankfurt school derivatives: Henry Giroux, Herbert Marcuse and so on.
Given how mainstream economics is the hybrid of Pigovianism, Keynesianism and Samuelson-style MIT optimization math-heavy programs, I'm not surprised that the guys at Wisecrack haven't picked up many of the nuances of Freshwater perspectives.
or Thorstein Veblen!!
You guys should do another one with Margaritaville, Walmart, the KFC episode... there are tons of examples!
Hey Wisecrack, does spiderman: homecoming talk about problems with capitalism?
Horny Dog HAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahaha haha ha ha.....ha. good one
Horny Dog, Hy dude, dnt get ur panties in a twist, I never said anything about which one is better, though I do like the concept of socialism personally, I think that it has its flaws much like I think capitalism has its flaws. Read what I wrote earlier clearly, don't rage.
Bearrorist good point XD
Horny Dog capitalism being better than communism doesn't mean it has no problem. Also how well do you actually understand communism
Horny Dog , no such thing as a "free market", everything is controlled down to the penny. It's all about money & the upper class, we the working class don't factor in at all.
Love all of these episodes!
I feel like Wisecrack spent 3 months reading Beaudrillard and then needed to catch up so they pushed out a ton of videos referencing him.
